Elisabeth, Princess of Belgium, Duchess of Brabant, was born in Anderlecht on 25 October 2001 and is the first child of King Philippe and Queen Mathilde.
As the eldest, Princess Elisabeth is the first in the order of succession to the throne. Since 21 July 2013, Elisabeth has borne the title of Duchess of Brabant, a title reserved for the heir presumptive.
Princess Elisabeth is currently studying for a Masters in Public Policy at Harvard University (Harvard Kennedy School) in Cambridge, United States. She completed her Bachelor's degree in History & Politics at Lincoln College, a college that is part of Oxford University in the United Kingdom, in July 2024. In 2020, she obtained her International Baccalaureate at UWC Atlantic College in Wales. In July 2021, she completed her studies in ‘Military and Social Sciences’ at the Royal Military Academy (KMS). Just before her two-year training in Wales, the Princess attended the Dutch-speaking Sint-Jan Berchmanscollege in Brussels. The Princess also attended the Yale Young Global Scholars Program at Yale University. Princess Elisabeth regularly returns to Belgium and remains involved in Belgian public life during activities alone, with His Majesty the King or her family.
Princess Elisabeth is multilingual and speaks fluent Dutch, French, German and English.
During her free weekends, the Princess likes to spend time with her brothers Gabriel and Emmanuel and her sister Eléonore.
She is sporty and enjoys skiing, rowing and sailing, among other things. She really enjoys walking and being in touch with nature.
She has taken piano lessons for several years. Her taste in music is varied, as with all young people her age.
Elisabeth attaches great importance to her friends with whom she likes to meet and travel. Reading remains a pleasure for her and an important source of discovery and inspiration.
She has volunteered with organizations that support school leavers, the elderly, people with disabilities and the homeless.
